Our Mission:
To inform and guide the development, implementation and evaluation of quality mental health services in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Together we strive to influence systemically at local, regional and national levels, by providing a collective voice for consumers of these services, which is unified by a shared vision and set of values.
Members are Consumer Advisors or Consumer Consultants, who are employed (wholly or partly) to provide a consumer perspective to a District Health Board (DHB) on the mental health and addictions services that it delivers itself (typically, specialist tertiary and secondary services).
Members may be directly employed by a DHB in this role or may be contracted to provide consumer advice to the DHB’s mental health and addictions services via a non-government organisation (NGO).
Each District is entitled to be represented at NAMHSCA meetings by up to three members:
1. the DHB’s lead “mainstream” Consumer Advisor
2. the DHB’s lead Tangata Whaiora or Maori Consumer Advisor
3. the DHB’s lead Pacific Consumer Advisor
Membership of NAMHSCA ceases when an individual is no longer employed in a lead Consumer Advisor role for a DHB.
